North Essex District Cricket Report - 2013 Season
In 2013 U’11s District cricket had another good year, winning all 4 of their 35 over matches they played. This season as well as the District matches the U’11s will be playing against Suffolk U’10s, Holmwood House School, The Royal Hospital School & Tower Hamlets. They have also been invited back to the Royal Hospital School to compete in the Minor County Festival.
The U’10s will hopefully play a couple of friendly matches.
U’13s played 3 Forty Over matches winning 2 of them. The U’13s will play a match against Tower Hamlets and they have been invited on a tour of The Netherlands.
Unfortunately the 20/20 competition in 2013 was rained off.
North Essex District Cricket Board held a programme of indoor cricket trials during the winter for the Under 9s to Under 15s. The best players were fast tracked to Essex for trials at The County Ground. The programme of fixtures offers the chance for players who have not been selected for Essex squads to enlighten selectors with impressive performances; with this method players are offered plenty of opportunity to climb the ladder to success.
All the teams will be playing extra matches this season, this will of course incur extra costs, so if anyone has ideas for sponsorship or fundraising please let us know.
District cricket is an exciting part of the North Essex Youth Cricket calendar offering the opportunity for young cricketers to perform against strong opposition of equal ability. The matches offer a chance to perform at a high level and good performances are put forward to Essex Age Group Managers to compete for the possibility of a place in an Essex age group squad. These matches often prove to be crucial in gaining recognition in the Essex youth system.
The Essex and District Managers and Coaches work hard to create this opportunity for the youths and we do endeavour to get the process right. The whole process only works with accurate communication each year from clubs and schools. At the end of the season can all clubs remember to nominate their very best cricketers i.e. players who regularly score 30+ with the bat or regularly take 3 wickets to Essex Cricket Club for inclusion in next year’s trials.
If anyone can help with putting information onto the District Board website, please let us know.
Good luck to everyone for the forth coming season and many thanks to all the managers and coaches especially David Merriday, Paul Lees, Michael Pulford and Ron Parkes for all their time and hard work.
